What is TrialAdviser?

This web site was started to help Melbourne doctors keep track of the increasing number of trials in dementia and prodromal conditions. Each has different characteristics and it has become increasingly difficult to advise patients who wish to participate in clinical trials of promising therapies which trials are appropriate or most suited to them.

The aim was to list all relevant trial criteria (especially inclusion and exclusion criteria) in the one location and make these searchable, up-to-date and easy to access.

It also aims to provide contact details for local trial sites so potential participants and health professionals can contact appropriate people directly.

Who can use TrialAdviser?

Any one can use TrialAdviser to search for trials that might be of interest to them. There is a "Quick Search" field on the home page that allows single word searches of trial information. There is also an "Advanced Search" page which allows multiple search fields to be specified. Such searches will bring up relevant trial information with sufficient details to help potential participants decide whether they are eligible for these trials.

Doctors, health professionals, study sponsors or their delegates (e.g. contract research organizations) and researchers can register to do more detailed searches or register their trials to enhance local recruitment.

Who can register for TrialAdviser?

Doctors and health professionals can register to get more detailed information about trials if they wish. This is not necessary if all they want is the basic information about a trials design and eligibility criteria.

Researchers and study sponsors or their delegates (e.g. contract research organizations) will need to register to enter their trials so they appear in searches, and recruitment can be facilitated by TrialAdviser. They will typically register, then log in and enter trial information about the design, therapy being evaluated and eligibility criteria. They will also enter trial sites and their contact details and keep these up-to-date.

All potential registrants for TrialAdviser will need to explain who they are and why they need to be registered. Registrants who do not follow the TrialAdviser Terms and conditions and Privacy statement will be removed from TrialAdviser (along with any trials they have registered).

Can researchers doing studies without a therapy register their trial on TrialAdviser?

Yes. They will need to register and explain why they would like to add their trials and also abide by the Terms and conditions and understand the Privacy statement of TrialAdviser.

Is there a charge to participate in this study?

No. This service is provided free of charge as a public service. If it gets more popular, we may consider charging something for registering trials.

Why did my search fail to find any trials?

If after a search you do not match with any trials, then there may not currently be any trials that match the conditions you entered. You could try again with different searching terms but this may select trials for which you are not eligible anyway. As more trials are registered, you could consider trying again.
